HOMO FERRATUS - by makadi3000
I'm a designer currently living and working in Zurich, right in the middle of Europe. This blog is about my original toy work and hobby interests. I dedicate it to Japanese artist Kow Yokoyama, creator of the Maschinen Krieger universe, which has always been a teacher and source of inspiration to me, as he is for many contemporary concept artists and illustrators of the 21st century.

Just to celebrate Hasegawa's news and to get everyone in the mood, here are some final pictures of my resin 1/20 Camel build. The kit was mastered by talented Akio Sato and extremely accurate to Kow's original model. Released by FireOrange at Tokyo's Wonder Festival 2007..... and soon at your favorite hobby shop! :)

BREAKING NEWS - Camel by Hasegawa!
Another epic Ma.K. reveal has been made by Hasegawa: CAMEL will be available as a scale model kit by end of this year - either in 1/35 or 1/20 scale ... Please, let us all let Hasegawa know that we need this to be 1/20!!! We already got through with the Falke, and we really should try again with the Camel! Definitely another of my very fav of Kow's designs! WOOT!

Part 2: The Body

Don't forget to add the spheric part and to paint the inside before glueing the body ;) I modified the guard plate to get the right position of the engine bell and guide arm...

than carefully puttying and smoothing this beautiful piece of design! I bought a scribing tool for re-trace the panel lines of the body and decided to go with my own interpretation of some 'vague' sections of the original design.

I didn't like how the junction section was arranged originally and went for a slightly fifferent assembly.

All details and extra parts from the 1/35 Gepard has been added to the body... that was fun! :)

I fitted the cockpit-suspensions with sleeves (from Matilda) for easy spring attachment and closed the back side with a PE disc...

The cables will be plugged into the middle section by use of a magnet, polycaps will keep the cockpit movable and detachable.

Part 1: Cockpit with Pilot

The cabin is kitbashing at its best!!! Make sure the canopy closes properly before glueing the pedal! I had to cut the pilot in half and modify the legs angle for ideal fit.

The undercoat should be painted in layers otherwise it will be very dificult to reach all hidden corners when fully assembled.

Painted pilot...

I found some real space pictures of the Gemini capsule, which I would like to use as a reference for the camel cockpit color scheme.

Added some custom details to the cabine, like control sticks made from a piece of wheel suspension from the spares bin...

and filled the console with a monitor... Yep, it's a Ma.Kintosh ;)

Fasten your seat belts... all done! :)
