HOMO FERRATUS - by makadi3000

I'm a designer currently living and working in Zurich, right in the middle of Europe. This blog is about my original toy work and hobby interests. I dedicate it to Japanese artist Kow Yokoyama, creator of the Maschinen Krieger universe, which has always been a teacher and source of inspiration to me, as he is for many contemporary concept artists and illustrators of the 21st century.

Thanks for looking! - Adi D'Agostino aka makadi3000

BRAMBLE by Ashley Wood

BRAMBLE - the new world war robot by Ashley Wood is here! It's been less than half a year since we've met BERTIE, now the first of three limited variations of 1/6 scaled BRAMBLE is ready to be released tomorrow at Bambaland. Like BERTIE, it's a fully articulated high quality toy and comes with a nearly 13-inch long gatling gun!

Ashley Wood is an Australian award winning comic book artist and illustrator who is well known for his cover art and concept design. Wood's illustration technique is a combination of traditional painting techniques, coupled with digital photography and graphic software. Read more about his great talent and exceptional career here.

KRAFTSCHIFF (01)

This is another hovercraft idea, which came to me while playing around with the Rolls Royce fenders for the CERBERUS. I used the full fender part of the 1/16 Revell kit and converted the rear section to hover turbines. So in the front you see the control tower and in the back the air inlet and exhaust. The whole thing is intended to be a giant moving command center and carrier of a yet unknown device. Scale is 1/76.

IRON MAN 1/6 MARK ONE

How cool is that? Hot Toys announced the prototype suit "MARK ONE"! I'm actually not a big fan of movie collectibles, but I can't ignore the prototype suit from the new IRON MAN movie! I mean, just look at those huge fan belts along the side and all those details on the back. This thing is kitbashing amazing and maybe also a little bit Ma.K? ;)

P.K.F.100 FALKE NGF (14)

The Underbody:
Just added some basic parts to the rear fuselage under surface... I'll keep the little shovel and axe visible as a symbol for kitbashing :)

P.K.F.100 FALKE NGF (13)

The Nozzle:
If you ever plan to build a NG Falke you'll need to scratchbuild your own cones, cause they comes from a vintage* lamp stand I found in the scrap iron bin. (*Edit: actually IKEA as I found out, lol)
Not sure yet if I want to make it look more thruster like by adding an exhaust manifold ring...

The insert is made by half a barrel, a spray can safety spacer and a 1/16 Rolls Royce part. The turbine is from a tank wheel I think.

Painted the turbine before glueing the insert.

KÖNIGS KRÖTE (01)

This is the walker I was talking about the other day, the amazingly impressive Königs Kröte! I already put some ground color on it and is just waiting for the paint job now. The kit was made by FireOrange in 1/35 scale and is probably the best KK kit available. Btw, my cat Lenny is just doing what he does about 80% of his life time: sleeping!

Thank you guys :)

I never expected such a fantastic email response, and I want to thank everybody for the interest and positive feedback. Everything still subject to change, but here are some full view pictures as promised :)

KÜSTER (01)

Another kit I started years ago is a 1/35 Küster. I added putty shields and other conversion parts to a Kröte and I'm planning a diorama with it, together with another walker... more soon. Here some pictures of the multi media buildup before messing with color :)

P.K.F.100 FALKE NGF (11)

Great! My new mobile phone with 5mp camera is inferior in quality as my old 3mp cam. Audio quality also very poor by the way, which is still supposed to be the main function of mobile phones! Instead it's all touchscreeny... wow, thank you for that but I can't hear you! However, the WIP reports must go on and so here we go again! ;)

The Anty Gravity
Pod (Rear Unit):
"May I present you the new HAG-POD Technology - Hemispheric Anti Gravity Pod! The half shell design allows a more economical and equilibrated aircraft design. Due to a special reflector device the anty gravity field achieves efficiency of 75% at 50% power consumption compared to conventional ball design. The NG Falke is the first one-manned aircraft provided with a four point AG-pod alignment, which has much more improved flight characteristics, especially low-altitude and landing navigation."
An extract from the manual ;)

I beefed-up the underside of the booms by adding a segment of the Beaufighter fuselage (red marking)...

Now the rear pod unit can be added to the booms. The Ping Pong ball follows exactly the curve of the Krupp Protze Fender...

After sanding I gave it a fresh coat of primer to see where I want to move the overall design. See the green color above and below? Same color, different camera :(

some underneath details.

P.K.F.100 FALKE NGF (10)

The Tail Section:
A little bit of progress on the rear hull design... more about the role of
the Krupp Protze fenders as soon as I get my new mobile cam ready ;)
